Game 7

OK, I watched the game on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh and I was disappointed at the outcome. There were wrong calls, calls not made, and well, the Wings lost. I am over that loss, but now the Wings face Game 7 tomorrow night at the Joe. History is often made in a Game 7, and most teams prefer never to play on one. They prefer never to play in one because it means that their season is over and they lost or their season is over and they are champions. Emotions run very high, as opposed to a Game 4 when one of the teams is up 3-0.

I remain hopeful and confident of a victory on home ice tomorrow night. Just don't call me between 8PM-11PM or so. Let's go, Red Wings!

One win away...

The Red Wings are just a single win away from capturing their 12th Stanley Cup. Last night, the Wings pummeled the Penguins 5-0 to take a 3-2 lead in the series. Last Sunday, the Wings were up 2-0 and went to Pittsburgh for two games. I was hoping that the Wings would win one and make Game 5 the clincher, but they were unable to win either game. I like to think that the momentum has shifted back to the Wings and I am hopeful for a win on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh.

One win in the books

The Blue Jackets played some tough hockey last night at Joe Louis Arena, but in the end, the Wings took Game 1 by a score of 4-1. 15 more wins and the Wings can once again hoist Lord Stanley's Cup, but there are 15 other teams out there with the same goal (no pun intended!). The first round of the playoffs are always crazy, and I am just happy that the Wings started out with a win.

I was surprised to see the San Jose Sharks drop Game 1 to the Anaheim Ducks. Nobody saw that one coming.

This is not a matter of life and death...

This is a lot more important. It is the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Red Wings are playing the Blue Jackets. Say it with me, "Let's go, Red Wings!"

Wings win!

Deirdre and I are breathing again. The last few minutes were tough, but the Red Wings have just won their 11th Stanley Cup. Say it with me, "Let's go, Red Wings!"

34.3 Seconds...

I am finally able to talk about Monday night's game. The Wings were 34 seconds way from claiming their 11th Stanley Cup when the Pens scored. The Game went into triple overtime and the Pens got a shot past Chris Osgood during a 4 minute penalty. Tonight the puck drops a little after 8PM EDT. I am hopeful for a win in Game Six tonight. More to follow...

One win away

Sixteen wins are needed in hickey's second season to claim Lord Stanley's Cup. The Wings are 15-3 in the playoffs and Game Five they are one victory away from winning their 11th Stanley Cup. Last night, they beat the Penguins on their home ice, something that no team had done during the playoffs. Indeed, no team had beaten the Penguins at home since 24 February. It got a little interesting during the third period as the Wings were clipped with two penalties, sending two of the Winged Warriors to the Sin Bin. For almost 90 seconds, which is an eternity during the playoffs, let along the Cup Finals, the remaining three defenders had to hold off the offensive attack of the Penguins. The Wings held off the Pens, and they even got off a shot while they were shorthanded. With about a minute to go in the game, the Penguins pulled their goalie so they had six attackers. Once again, the Wings stood tall, preventing the Penguins from scoring. The clock ticked down to 0.00, the horn sounded the end of the game and Deirdre started breathing again. Game Five will be Monday night at Joe Louis Arena. Let's hope that the Wings will crush the Penguins and hoist the Cup.

I have a busy day ahead of me. Yesterday, I applied a second coat of paint to the interior side of our new front door, but today I need to start the process of painting the exterior of the door and sidelights. Updates to follow as conditions warrant.

Lord Stanley's Cup

It is often said that there are two seasons in the NHL: The regular season and the eight weeks of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It takes sixteen wins over the course of four rounds of the playoffs to earn the right to hoist the Stanley Cup. The Wings have twelve of the sixteen victories needed to bring the cup back to Hockeytown. Their opponent, the Pittsburgh Penguins also have twelve wins and they want the Cup as much as the Wings want it. I am hopeful that the Wings will be the first to sixteen wins. Last night, the Stars were dispatched with nary a thought. By the end of the first period, the Wings were ahead 3-0 and they never looked back. Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals is this Saturday night. Say it with me, "Let's go, Red Wings!"

We are breathing a little easier now...

The Wings are up 4-0 against the Stars in Game 6. It is almost the end of the second period. Life agrees with me. Say it with me, "Let's go, Red Wings!"

Johan Franzen 9, Avalanche 9

Late last night the Red Wings crushed the Avalanche 8-2 on the Av's home ice. Johan Franzen notched yet another hat trick as the Wings swept Colorado to advance to the Western Conference Finals. Mr. Franzen scored as many goals himself against the Avs as the entire Avalanche team scored against Detroit. The Wings will play the Dallas Stars or the San Jose Sharks. The Stars are leading their series 3-1 and play the Sharks tonight in San Jose. I will be hoping for a win by the Stars tonight. Say it with me, "Let's go, Red Wings!"

It is not a matter of life and death. It is the playoffs. It is much more important than that.

Late tonight, our beloved Red Wings will play the hated Avalanche in Colorado. The Wings are up 3-0 in this best of seven series. Tonight, the Wings can eliminate the Avs and wait for the Stars-Sharks series to play out. In any sport that has a "best of seven game series," winning the fourth game is the most difficult. Your opponent knows that it is win or go home. A team facing elimination is a lot like a wounded animal. They will fight for their life... that is, until you end their existence. What do you do when your opponent is down but not out? You step on his neck and do everything in your power to turn him into a former opponent. The puck will drop at the Pepsi Center at 10PM EDT tonight. Way too late for me to stay up and watch the end result as I have to be at work by 8AM tomorrow (I really like the sound of that), but the first thing I will check when I wake up in the morning is the score of the game. Let's go, Red Wings!
